Online service alternatives for self-hosting
Making a conscious hardware choice might be the easiest, as it does not really alter personal behavior that much. Choosing privacy oriented software alternatives might be already a big step up, as most of the time additional privacy comes at the cost of a limited feature set or other minor inconveniences (which are well worth it in my opinion).
